ABOUT: Moving Spirits, Inc. is a contemporary arts organization dedicated to performing, researching, documenting, cultivating, and producing arts of the African diaspora. Africanistic aesthetics heavily influence the company's repertory. Their work blends modern, ballet, African diaspora dance forms, and contemporary West African dances.

"We believe that the creative arts should be used as a vehicle to bring awareness to social justice issues and obstacles impacting our communities.” Moving Spirits' artists dedicate themselves to evolving social change through dance performances and community engagement. Moving Spirits, Inc has performed in several cities nationally including New York City; Charlotte, NC.; Kalamazoo; MI, and Atlanta, GA, and internationally in Serbia, Switzerland, Germany, Trinidad, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil.

Moving Spirits, Inc. produces events with the intention to uplift Black and brown communities. In 2013, an evening of dance entitled, The Makings of YOU with special guest company, Laurie M. Taylor/Soul Movement was produced at Dance New Amsterdam. In 2013, Moving Spirits presented its second annual concert, Epic Narratives; An evening of dance, visual art, theater, and social commentary. In 2015, Moving Spirits presented RESPOND: Moving Spirits to Enlightenment an event paying homage to black lives lost to police brutality. Moving Spirits also presented Dancing in the Parks: Bushwick Community Festival in 2015; an evening of performances in parks attached to public housing projects. During the 2016 season, Moving Spirits engaged in a two-week residency with Brazilian artist Rosangela Silvestre. The company presented Walking Elements, featuring choreography by Silvestre and Artistic Director, Tamara Williams. Since 2017, Moving Spirits, Inc. has provided free African diaspora dance classes to the Charlotte region through generous grants from ASC's Culture Blocks programming.
