ABOUT: Jah Smalls is a spoken word artist, educator, and author. As an advocate for teen suicide awareness and child pornography prevention, Smalls facilitates poetry and art workshops tailored for at-risk youth. These workshops offer creative outlets for teens, which help promote positive self esteem, self-affirmation, and interpersonal skills. As a spoken word performance artist, Smalls produces showcases for both seasoned and novice poets. By doing so, he provides a safe haven where spoken word performance artists can fully embrace their creative platform. In his work as a teaching artist, performer, and workshop facilitator, Smalls has collaborated with Guerilla Poets, The Arts Empowerment Project, and R U OK Charlotte.
Smalls created a short docufilm in 2016 called #SAYWORD, which highlights artists who use the arts as a form of therapy. He is the author of three publications of poetry and prose: My Thoughts, The Black Light, and most recently, One Hundred and One Love Notes from Dad.
