ABOUT: Dawn Anthony studied music at Central Piedmont Community College and Queens University of Charlotte, where she earned her degree in vocal performance. Singing everything from classical to jazz and musical theater to gospel, she thrives on challenging herself to grow as a musician and making connections with others beyond the words and notes on the page. Anthony pursues her love for learning, performing, and teaching through cultural exchanges and musical collaborations beyond the stage and classroom.
In February of 2018, she completed her first children's book entitled "The Gift Way Up in the Closet" and in July of 2019, she partnered with S. Kristi Douglas of She Reigns ministries for the musical adaptation of her children's book, "The Gift Way Up in the Closet: The Musical." The works encourage children to seek their gifts and talents. Anthony performs frequently in the Charlotte area and was honored to sing tributes to Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson for JazzArts Charlotte's Jazz Room series. She teaches in the JazzArts WeBop program for preschool children and serves as a music educator for her own organization, DNAMuzic.
Dawn Anthony has recently been named community impact manager for the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.
PROGRAMS
DNA Muzic
DNAMuzic is a music and arts education program that tours area schools. These programs reinforce and build cultural bridges through the vehicle of music history and technology. DNAMuzic brings together some of Charlotte's top musicians with years of combined teaching and performance experience. One of the most popular programs is Motown and More. It speaks to the history of this popular music and the music and environments that influenced its sound - blues, jazz, protest and spiritual songs - addressing, among other social contexts, the impact of the Great Migration.
