ABOUT: An office in the City of Charlotte’s Planning, Design, and Development department, Charlotte Urban Design Center advances the quality of the built environment, creates public awareness, and communicates the importance of urban design in Charlotte. “We reveal how design influences our quality of life and economic resilience. We advocate for great places in a livable city.”
Among the many programs and initiatives of the Urban Design Center is the City of Charlotte Placemaking Program. The Placemaking Program launched in 2018 with the mission of using urban design and placemaking to transform underutilized public spaces into vibrant places for people. The project provides grants, tools, and resources for local placemaking projects and maintains a Local Artist Pool for city-led and community-led placemaking work.
