ABOUT: Charlotte Pride is the leader in LGBTQ visibility in Charlotte and the Carolinas. We present and collaborate on programs, projects, and activities, including the annual Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade, Charlotte Trans Pride, Charlotte Latin Pride, and Reel Out Charlotte, among others. Since its founding in 2000, Charlotte Pride has expanded its year-round programming and partnerships to better connect community members with its mission, vision, and values. It is now one of the largest LGBTQ Pride organizations in the American Southeast. Our year-round programs, projects, and activities help us fulfill our mission to enrich, empower, strengthen, and make visible the unique lives and experiences of LGBTQ people in Charlotte and the Carolinas. Charlotte Pride’s commitment to the community extends through the life of all of our programs. Through our programs and committees, Charlotte Pride commits to treating all people with respect and dignity, creating continuous learning and involvement opportunities, creating awareness on intersectional issues which impact the lives of our diverse community, and offering opportunities for the year-round engagement, recognition, and empowerment of our volunteers.
ARTS-BASED PROGRAMS: In addition to our film arts programs and annual film festival, Reel Out Charlotte, Charlotte Pride also partners on several other collaborative projects highlighting the artistic and cultural diversity of the LGBTQ community. Past projects have included local artist Edwin Gil and art showcases featuring talent from local LGBTQ choral groups, photographers, dancers and others. Additionally, Charlotte Pride works to include a diversity of local talent in the line-up for each year’s festival entertainment.
Visual Arts: The LGBTQ community is comprised of a diverse array of incredibly talented and creative people. Charlotte Pride works throughout the year to highlight the unique arts and culture of our shared LGBTQ lives and experiences.
Flourish: Each year, LGBTQ community arts organizations join forces to create an artistic “festival within a festival” during the Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade. “Flourish: A Celebration of LGBTQ Arts + Culture” includes participation from local choral groups, musical groups, photographers and other artists. Stay tuned for more information on this year’s Flourish line of events during the 2018 Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade.
Reel Out Charlotte: Reel Out Charlotte is the Queen City’s annual LGBTQ film festival. This program of Charlotte Pride uses the power of art and film to entertain, enlighten and build valuable bridges of understanding, support, and acceptance within and between the LGBTQ and ally communities in the Charlotte region. The film festival will celebrate its 10th annual event in 2018.
Drag Performance Art: Drag performance art holds a special place in the larger LGBTQ culture and history. Charlotte Pride hosts annual Miss and Mr. Charlotte Pride pageants, as well as several drag performance events with Charlotte Latin Pride.
