ABOUT: BOOM is Charlotte’s artist-led performance and visual arts showcase of contemporary and experimental works created on the fringes of popular culture. The three-day spring arts festival and smaller events throughout the year promote the explosive power of art to unite and strengthen our community.
BOOM offers an open platform for a diverse range of artists to collaborate at a large scale. Our goal is to transcend the divides of race/age/gender, and unite the community through the arts; to engage and empower artists, especially those traditionally marginalized; and create social mobility through the arts.
BOOM’s mission is simple: to spark creativity and collaboration among a diverse group of artists, performers, and audiences. To achieve that mission we convene artists, volunteers, nonprofits, businesses, and neighborhood organizations to form a unique coalition working to transform the way arts and culture are created and shared in Charlotte.
BOOM Fringe features the edgy, the experimental, and the experiential works of local and national artists. BOOM Intersection is the outdoor space in which art, culture, and community collide. Some of Charlotte’s best performance arts organizations curate this outdoor stage with live music and performance art that is free and open to the public. The Intersection is the epicenter of the BOOM festival. It becomes a location for artists, audiences, and community members to come together and enjoy live performances, public installation, participatory visual art, and games in an outdoor living room complete with couches and a fire pit. It also serves as a place of play for children in designated activity spaces. It is the location to find out more about BOOM. BOOM Film (forthcoming) will present fringe art films during BOOM in collaboration with Carolina Film Festival and CineOdyssey Film Festival.
