ABOUT: The Mint Museum is a leading, innovative cultural institution and museum of international art and design. With two locations — Mint Museum Randolph in the heart of Eastover and Mint Museum Uptown at Levine Center for the Arts —the Mint boasts one of the largest collections in the Southeast and is committed to engaging and inspiring members of the global community. The Mint Museum is dedicated to leadership in collecting, exhibiting, conserving, researching, publishing, interpreting, and sharing art and design from around the world. These commitments are central to the museum’s core values of leadership, integrity, inclusiveness, knowledge, stewardship, and innovation, promoting understanding of and respect for diverse peoples and cultures.
Community & Education Programs
Grier Heights Community Youth Arts Program
The primary goal of the Grier Heights Community Youth Arts Program is to have participating youth experience art to build self-esteem, develop self and mutual respect, make wise life choices, strive for excellence, exercise healthy life skills, and realize the importance of becoming great through service.
In 2012, The Mint Museum launched a museum-wide Latino Initiative. Building upon the Mint’s nearly 20-year history of participation and engagement with Charlotte’s growing Latino population, the initiative has four major goals: to strengthen the visibility of The Mint Museum throughout the Latino community; to broaden and diversify the audience base of family and adult visitors and members; to create opportunities for collaboration with other organizations in support of Latin American art and artists; and to position the museum at the center of Latino cultural life. The initiative includes programs for adults and children. There are efforts for community outreach by partnering with a wide variety of organizations. Examples of programs include:
MintMatiné: Latin Film Series
Journey Through Latin America Summer Camps & Scholarships
Adult programs such as :
Latin Music @the Mint
Mint to Move Cultural Dance Night
Día de la Velitas
Mint Música & Poesía
Outreach to the Latino Community
Con A de Arte ( A is for Art)
Latin American Women's Association (LAWA)
Latin American Coalition
Additionally, the museum has been working closely with local Spanish-language media outlets. Media partners include radio Latina FM 102.3 and newspaper Hola Noticias, both owned by Norsan Media Group, and newspaper La Noticia. 3. Articles about Mint Museum exhibitions and events related to Latin American culture are featured in the Spanish printed media on a regular basis.
