ABOUT: Crista Cammaroto is an interdisciplinary artist with strong roots in photography and environmental art. She has had 17 years teaching in academia and 15 years in art administration, mostly curatorial work. She currently continues her studio practice as an artist while also working as an Art Instructor at Gaston College.
As former Director of Galleries at UNC Charlotte, she was also a co-founder of the four-year environmental initiative Keeping Watch. As former Artistic Director of The Light Factory, she co-authored the McColl awarded Message in a Bottle outreach exchange in conjunction with the Artifacts of Remembrance exhibit. These organizations have allowed her to change the paradigm of the distanced audience and work in constant collaboration with many fine organizations and people of Charlotte as a curator. She now collaborates with many of the same as an interdisciplinary artist.
Her residencies include The Carolina Raptor Center, Little Italy Arts Center, The McColl Center for Visual Art, Charlotte, NC, and an assistantship at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, CO. Her work can be found in the Bechtler Contemporary Collection, the Denver Museum of Art and special collections of UNC Charlotte.
Crista’s new Terra Forma Series was on view at the Mint Museum of Art Uptown and Randolph locations in Spring 2019, Camp North End in the Fall of 2019, Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art in the Fall of 2020, and ATHICA in Athens, GA, Spring 2021.
