ABOUT: Creating Exposure through the Arts (C.E.A.) is a non-profit located in Charlotte, North Carolina designed to educate and mentor youth by creating opportunities of exposure through the arts. Young artists will learn to be proficient in their craft under the supervision of professionals and volunteers. After-school programs are conducted in various locations in partnership with local non-profit organizations (i.e. YMCA, Police Athletic League, Arts & Science Council, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Centers). C.E.A. aims to empower and educate youth while creating opportunities for artists to hone their talents and expose them to new experiences.

C.E.A. offers  five youth programs. Photography training, “Behind the Scenes” entrepreneurial skills training, “In My Own Words” writing skills training, “Exposure” mentoring and internships, and N2, a neighborhood newsletter combining the skills gained from the four programs above. In each program, professional artists, photographers, and writers mentor students and facilitate their development of portfolios, skills, and journalism.

C.E.A. also takes up community-based projects. The most recent one, Behind The Ink, resulted in producing a multidisciplinary arts exhibition and short film documentary of people from various races, cultures, ethnicities, and age groups that tell the stories behind their tattoos. Past projects have also served community purposes and often supported other non-profits. C.E.A. also provides college readiness services for audiences 8th through 12th grade.
