ABOUT: Following the death of Trayvon Martin in 2014, Jacobs took the call to action to document areas of large sociopolitical unrest (Ferguson, NYC, Baltimore), capturing critical moments of social justice movements as a photo-journalist under the moniker [To Speak No Evil]. “His distinctive aesthetic is marked by a propensity toward highlighting stark contrast and in dealing in the black & white – both in photography and in the world” (About Page). ”It’s not about the composition, lighting, settings on the camera,” Jacobs says. “It’s about how to get conversations started around these images and change lives” (Charlotte Observer article). Jacobs contributed his work “Welcome to Brookhill” to the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, a documentation on the sense of community and home that the people in the Charlotte community of Brookhill Village have, in spite of the gentrification and displacement that took place in the area.
